A Sports massage therapy  treatment plays an important part in the life of any sportsman or woman whether they are injured or if they wish to reduce the chances of an injury or it's reoccurance.

A Sports massage has a number of benefits - physical, physiological and psychological.

A Sports Massage therapy teatment helps to keep the body in a good condition, can help to prevent injuries and can reduce loss of mobility. It can help to restore mobility to injured muscle tissue and help to relax the sportsperson thus potentially enhancing sporting performance. Stretching carried out during the treatment can improve flexibility and range of motion, and maybe mean you can continue your sporting career for longer.

A Sports Massage treatment is not just for Sportspeople but for anyone who has a manual or physically demanding job, postural misalignment or poor posture, a stressful or demanding job.

I use a variety of techniques and methods during my treatments:

Compression: Gentle pressing and releasing of the skin for better blood flow.

Neuro muscular Release: Pressing of triggers to help release tension within the muscle by pressing on the muscle

Effleurage: Swedish technique where a gentle smooth stroking movement is effected using both hands

Friction: Circulation and blood flow technique for deep massage. Generates heat through deep massage movements that cause friction between the layers of skin and muscle.

Myo-fascial Release: Also known as MTR A technique of touch and pulling with strokes aimed at the treatment of the fascia.

Petrissage: Manipulation using kneeding, rolling and squeezing movements. May be used after effleurage.

Rocking: Often used in sport massage where limbs are stretched and rocked laterally to move the joints.

Soft Tissue Release: Also known as STR is a focus on specific tissues pressing to hold an area whilst stretching localised tissues.

Tapotement: A very common technique of gentle beating using the edge of the hand as a pummel.

Muscular Energy Techique: A method of improving flexibility, stretching a muscle and increasing range of movement.
