After Care - Making the most from your Treatment

How you feel after a massage varies from people to people. Your muscles might feel sore or totally relaxed. You may feel sleepy, invigorated, chillied. How you feel after a massage depends on a variety of factors: hydration, what you eaten, your level of injury and how deep I worked the massage.

Toxins

Because massage increases the circulation of blood, it helps to loosen and disperse metabolic wastes: "toxins." These are naturally occurring chemicals in your body and part of your body's normal "house keeping" process. You may find that you stomach gurgles and that you feel very thirtsy and even hungry.

Stay Hydrated

Drink some water after a massage You should always keep yourself well hydrated, but it is especially important after a massage. Drinking water will help flush your body of the wastes that were produced during the your treatment, and will help reduce soreness. You should avoid alcohol before and after your session. If you want to stay relaxed then also avoid tea and coffee.

Post Massage Care

As part of sport massage treaments I will show you stretches, and execises that will help to strengthen your muscles, help to get you back taking part in your sport and to minimise the chance of re-injury. It is a good idea to stretch while your muscles are still warmed up and relaxed from the massage. Stretching works by "re-educating" your muscles to remember their new length and position. It goes a long way in recovering from injury and restoring function. I incorporate several stretches in my treatments, but you can enhance rehabilation with a personalised stretching program at home and sticking to it. I am happy to show you specific stretches, exercises and provide handouts and demostrations to help you continue the treatment at home.

Wellness Partnership

Regular massage is a great way to support your health and happiness. For you to get the most benefit you have to be willing to learn and doing stretches and exercises consistently. Healing the injury is the first part of maintaining your injury free sport: the next stage is regular massage, stretching and manipuation.

Post Massage Chill Out

If possible, spend the rest of the day relaxing and taking it easy so you can enjoy the benefits of the massage. Avoid going back to hard workouts until your are ready to o so. I will hep plan your return to your sport, check your rehabilation progress and help you achieve long term sort participation.
